FAQ's
A difficult question to answer without knowing previous experience. Below are some statistics from the DVSA website to give you an idea of what to expect.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) doesn't set a specific number of lessons required to pass a driving test; rather, it suggests an average of 45 hours of professional lessons and 22 hours of private practice. However, the actual number of lessons needed varies greatly, depending on an individual's learning speed, confidence, and commitment. The most important factor is feeling confident and capable of driving safely without instruction before booking your test.
You can use the tuition vehicle (learner car) for your test. It is advisable to use the tuition vehicle due to the amount of hours you will likely have behind the wheel. However if you wish to use your own vehicle that is your decision. I recommend using your instructors vehicle due to the dual controls. An examiner will feel more comfortable knowing that they could take control of the car in safety critical situations should they arise.
Yes, Learners are allowed to drive on motorways with an Approved Driving Instructor and in a vehicle fitted with dual controls. However they are not permitted to drive on motorways if the above criteria are not met. For example, with a parent or with a Potential Driving Instructor, even if their vehicle is fitted with dual controls.
