The HSM Headstart Programme is a structured simulator-based course designed to help new drivers become familiar with the fundamental skills of driving before starting real lessons.

Using a professional manual driving simulator with steering wheel, pedals and gearstick, learners can practise essential driving skills in a safe, controlled environment while following a structured training workbook and guided video demonstrations.

Throughout the course, learners develop confidence with:

• clutch control
• steering control
• braking smoothly
• gear changes
• junction routines
• manoeuvres
• hazard awareness

The course includes 25 structured training modules, each designed to build the core skills needed for safe and confident driving.

By the end of the programme, learners will have practised many of the key skills normally introduced during the first few driving lessons.

How It Works​

Simulator Delivery

We deliver the simulator to your home on Sunday, set everything up, and provide a short introduction and safety briefing.

Structured Practice All Week

Learners use the simulator throughout the week while following the HSM Headstart workbook and video demonstrations.

Each module includes practical exercises designed to help develop the key skills required for real driving.

Includes, how to - common mistakes - development suggestions

Learners can practise as much as they like during the week, building confidence at their own pace.

Simulator Collection

The following Sunday we return to collect the equipment.

During collection we will discuss the learner’s progress and issue a HSM Headstart Certificate of Completion, which can be shared with their driving instructor to help plan their first lessons.
